Gardner-Webb University has a long and proud history of success on the baseball diamond. The Division I team has a winning record and a coaching staff that is recognized as one of the best in its league. Until recently, the one play that has been missing is a state-of –the-art facility for which construction has now begun. The late John Henry Moss, President of the South Atlantic Baseball League for 50 years, hit a double for the Runnin’ Bulldogs with his lead gift for the new baseball complex. Other major contributors include Bill Masters, Master Field; Maxwell Hamrick Insurance, Hamrick Gate; Nancy Poston, Assistant Coach’s Office; Dr. Phillip Turner, Head Coach’s Office. Gardner-Webb needs you and others like you, to step up to the plate and hit a homerun to complete the project.
The John Henry Moss Stadium will provide student-athletics the ability to skillfully practice and compete; expand recruiting efforts; enhance the quality of team opponents; and increase the numbers of spectators brought to campus. It’s a win-win situation for Gardner-Webb and the community as a whole.
A Division I baseball facility will inject a new level of energy and excitement into Gardner-Webb athletics. This project has a vision for leading the baseball program to the pinnacle of athletic prowess. The proposed $1.6 million facility is being built in the same location as the current facility. The baseball complex is projected to be completed by the end of 2010 with the first ball being pitched on the new field in spring of 2011. Proposed plans for the new facility include:
- Springs athletic facility & offices
- Full night lighting
- Team room
- 2 VIP boxes
- Press box & hospitality room
- 2 radio broadcast rooms
- Patios areas
- Concession stand
- Indoor batting cage
- Outdoor batting cage
- Umpire locker room
Ways to Pitch In
